This article applies to South-Tek Systems N2-BLAST fire protection nitrogen generators used for dry and pre-action sprinkler system corrosion prevention.
South-Tek N2-BLAST fire protection systems introduce high-purity nitrogen into sprinkler piping to help reduce electrochemical, galvanic, and microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC). These systems are intended for fire protection applications and should not be confused with South-Tek industrial nitrogen generators or commercial beverage systems.
Supported N2-BLAST model families
South-Tek fire protection systems are supported in the following model groups:
- FPS-500 and FPS-900 – compact wall-mounted systems
- FPS-1650, FPS-3250, and FPS-5000 – mid-range cabinet systems
- FPS-10000, FPS-16500, and FPS-22500 – large cabinet systems
How these systems are used
N2-BLAST systems are designed specifically for fire protection service. These products are corrosion inhibiting systems intended to introduce nitrogen into dry and pre-action sprinkler systems. Depending on model family, the systems may include integrated compressors, external air requirements, internal nitrogen storage, air filtration, PLC controls, automatic cut-in/cut-out logic, and optional BlastOff leak detection features.
Why nitrogen is used in fire protection systems
Nitrogen supervision helps reduce the oxygen-rich environment that drives internal corrosion in dry and pre-action sprinkler piping. By replacing compressed air with high-purity nitrogen, N2-BLAST systems help reduce the air-water interface that contributes to electrochemical, galvanic, and microbiologically influenced corrosion.
Nitrogen can also help reduce the risk of ice plug formation in cold environments. Because nitrogen is a dry gas with a very low dew point, it helps reduce condensation inside the piping and minimizes moisture that could otherwise freeze.
Why South-Tek uses PSA technology
South-Tek fire protection systems use Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology to generate nitrogen on site. PSA systems use carbon molecular sieve (CMS) to separate nitrogen from compressed air and provide a continuous supply of high-purity nitrogen for fire protection applications.
PSA technology is used throughout the N2-BLAST product line because it supports high-purity nitrogen generation, strong performance, and long service life for fire protection system supervision.
