This article applies to South-Tek Systems N2-BLAST FPS-10000, FPS-16500, and FPS-22500 fire protection nitrogen generators.
These site and utility requirements should be confirmed before installation. Meeting the required conditions helps the system perform as intended and helps prevent avoidable startup and operating issues.
Installation environment
- Install the system indoors in a nonhazardous location.
- Maintain an ambient installation temperature between 40°F and 100°F.
- Install the equipment in a well-ventilated area.
- Leave enough space around the system and associated equipment for maintenance, troubleshooting, and service access.
Air supply requirements
- Incoming air should be maintained between 40°F and 100°F.
- Water dew point should be less than 40°F.
- Incoming air pressure is typically 100 PSIG minimum and 125 PSIG maximum, unless otherwise configured.
- Incoming air should be set to the design air-in pressure in order to meet purity and flow expectations.
Air that does not meet these requirements can lead to poor performance and may cause damage not covered by warranty.
Additional piping and hosing
Any additional plumbing supplied by others must meet the unit’s flow, pressure, and temperature requirements.
- Maximum feed air at system pressure can be up to 3 times the specified average feed air flow rate.
- If piping length from the air receiver exceeds 50 feet, consult a piping contractor for proper line sizing.
- Piping should be installed in a way that supports service access and minimizes unnecessary pressure drop.
Electrical requirements
- 120 to 240 VAC / 50-60 Hz / 1 phase
- These models draw less than 5 amps
- Built-in 20A over-current protection device
- These systems require hard wiring.
- Power cords are not included.
- UL 508A ICP certification
Placement and layout considerations
- Install the generator and associated equipment in the same general area when possible.
- Provide adequate space for piping, wiring, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Plan the equipment layout so pressure drop is minimized and service access is not obstructed.
Before installation
- Verify the exact model number on the nameplate.
- Confirm incoming air meets the required temperature, dew point, and pressure conditions.
- Confirm incoming power matches the intended configuration.
- Confirm the installation location meets temperature, ventilation, and clearance requirements.
- Confirm associated air treatment and pressure vessel equipment are sized appropriately before startup.
