This article applies to South-Tek Systems N2-BLAST FPS-10000, FPS-16500, and FPS-22500 fire protection nitrogen generators.
Routine preventive maintenance is important for reliable nitrogen generation, alarm performance, and long-term equipment life. This article outlines the recommended maintenance items for the generator, associated accessories, and external compressor where applicable.
General maintenance guidance
- Only qualified personnel should perform maintenance and repairs.
- Shut down the system and isolate pressure before servicing filters, valves, or other pressurized components.
- Depressurize the area being serviced before disassembly.
- Disconnect electrical power before performing electrical work.
- Use approved replacement parts that meet or exceed the original specification.
Quarterly maintenance
External air compressor
Inspect the external air compressor quarterly.
- Check belt condition and tension
- Wipe down accessible surfaces
- Inspect oil level
Nitrogen generator and accessories
- Clean the strainer on each AutoPurge System, if installed
- Verify that the required nitrogen purity is being maintained
- Monitor run time and investigate excessive run hours or abnormal cycling
- Inspect the system for visible leaks, alarm activity, or abnormal operating behavior
Annual maintenance
External air compressor
Systems using an external compressor require annual compressor service.
- Change compressor oil
- Replace belts as required
- Replace compressor filters
- Inspect condensate drain components for leakage and tighten as needed
Nitrogen generator and accessories
- Replace all applicable filter elements
- Rinse the inside of each filter bowl
- Clean the dryer auto-drain strainer, if applicable
- Inspect and clean the dryer aftercooler, if applicable
- Verify that required nitrogen purity is being maintained
- Review run time history and investigate abnormal operation
Filter maintenance
These models include a standard filter set consisting of particulate, coalescing, and absorber filters. Clean filter elements are important for generator performance and longevity.
- Annual filter replacement kit part number is FRP-013 for FPS-10000.
- Annual filter replacement kit part number is FRP-006 for FPS-16500 and FPS-22500.
- Black filter housings use the filter kits listed above.
- Newer-style white filter bowls use FRP-022 for all three models.
- Filters should be replaced once per year or every 1000 hours, whichever comes first.
- Shut down and depressurize the system before opening any filter housing.
- Inspect bowls, seals, and housings during service.
- Reset filter maintenance reminders after service, if applicable.
Valve replacement schedule
Valves should be replaced every 5 years as part of the major preventive maintenance interval.
What to monitor between service intervals
- Unexpected increases in run time
- Recurring alarms
- Nitrogen purity not being maintained
- Visible or audible leaks
- Frequent transitions between run and standby
If any of these conditions are observed, the system should be inspected before the next scheduled maintenance interval.
