This article applies to South-Tek Systems N2-BLAST FPS-500 and FPS-900 fire protection nitrogen generators.
The FPS-500 and FPS-900 are compact fire protection systems designed to introduce nitrogen into dry and pre-action sprinkler piping to help reduce corrosion. These models are part of the South-Tek N2-BLAST product family and are intended specifically for fire protection applications.
Supported models
- FPS-500
- FPS-900
What these systems have in common
The FPS-500 and FPS-900 share the same overall system architecture and are documented similarly in their operating manuals.
- Compact wall-mounted cabinet design
- Built-in oil-less air compressor
- Integrated PLC/controller
- Nitrogen storage tank
- Air filtration inside the unit
- Pressure swing adsorption beds
- Automatic pressure cut-in and cut-out
- BlastOff leak detection capability
- 1/2" NPT female connections
Typical installation profile
These models are designed for indoor installation in a nonhazardous area. They are mounted upright to a weight-bearing wall or suitable rack structure and require adequate clearance for ventilation, service, tubing connections, and front cover access.
Both models use a wall mounting bracket approach and include a drain connection at the bottom right of the cabinet that should be routed to a suitable site drain.
Utility profile
- Built-in compressor for nitrogen generation
- 120 VAC / 50-60 Hz / 1 phase standard power requirement
- 240 VAC option available
- 15A over-current protection device
- Hard-wired electrical connection required
- Power cords are not included
- Recommended installation environment of 40°F to 100°F
Model-specific notes
- FPS-500: Designed for up to 70 PSI nitrogen outlet pressure, with 110V/60Hz/1 phase power requirements at 3.3 amps. Approximate unit weight is 84 lbs.
- FPS-900: Designed for up to 70 PSI nitrogen outlet pressure, with 110V/60Hz/1 phase power requirements at 3.5 amps. Approximate unit weight is 84 lbs.
Before choosing a manual or procedure
Confirm the exact model number on the unit nameplate before following a procedure or ordering service parts. While the FPS-500 and FPS-900 are very similar, always use the procedure or document that matches the model when available.
