This article provides a general overview of Quick-Check accessories used with supported South-Tek N2-BLAST fire protection systems.
Quick-Check accessories are optional monitoring and verification devices used to help confirm nitrogen purity within dry and pre-action fire protection systems. Depending on the model, Quick-Check may provide spot-check purity verification, zone-by-zone monitoring, alarm capability, and PowerSaver functionality.
This article is intended as an overview only. Installation, operation, startup, calibration, and maintenance requirements vary by Quick-Check model.
What is Quick-Check?
Quick-Check is an accessory product family used with South-Tek fire protection nitrogen systems to help verify that the fire protection piping is being supervised with nitrogen at the intended purity level.
Depending on the installed accessory, Quick-Check may be used to sample nitrogen purity at a specific point or to automatically monitor purity across one or more zones.
Why Quick-Check is used
Quick-Check accessories help provide greater visibility into actual system nitrogen conditions. Rather than relying only on generator operation or system pressure, Quick-Check accessories can help confirm whether the fire protection system is maintaining the intended nitrogen purity.
- Helps verify nitrogen purity within the fire protection system
- Can improve visibility into zone-by-zone system conditions
- May provide alarm capability for off-spec conditions
- May support more efficient operation when PowerSaver functionality is included
Types of Quick-Check accessories
Quick-Check accessories generally fall into two categories:
Quick-Check purity sampling manifold
The purity sampling manifold is used to verify nitrogen purity at a sampling point. This type of accessory provides a practical way to check nitrogen purity during inspection, service, or system review.
Quick-Check PowerSaver manifold
PowerSaver versions of Quick-Check are designed for ongoing purity monitoring and system response based on measured conditions. Depending on the model, the unit may monitor one or multiple zones and use programmed logic to support purge control once the target purity level has been reached.
What PowerSaver does
Quick-Check PowerSaver manifolds are used to monitor nitrogen purity and help reduce unnecessary purging once the desired purity has been achieved.
Depending on the configuration, the unit may periodically sample one or more zones, indicate whether purity is within the desired range, and allow purging to stop when the zone is in specification. If purity later drops below the acceptable range, the zone may return to normal purge mode.
Some PowerSaver configurations may also provide alarm outputs for connection to a building monitoring or supervisory system.
Common Quick-Check configurations
Supported Quick-Check configurations may include:
- Quick-Check Purity Sampling 1 Port Manifold
- Quick-Check PowerSaver Manifold 1 Port
- Quick-Check PowerSaver Manifold 6 Port
- Quick-Check PowerSaver Manifold 10 Port
- Quick-Check PowerSaver Manifold 20 Port
Not every N2-BLAST fire protection system includes a Quick-Check accessory. Installed equipment will vary by project scope and system design.
How Quick-Check relates to the AutoPurge System (APS)
Quick-Check accessories are commonly used in conjunction with the South-Tek AutoPurge System (APS). In many configurations, the Quick-Check accessory connects through the APS adapter port.
When a Quick-Check or PowerSaver accessory is connected to the APS, APS tuning may require temporary removal and reconnection of the 1/4" tubing during setup.
When to use this article
