This article applies to South-Tek Systems N2-BLAST FPS-500 and FPS-900 fire protection nitrogen generators.
These site and utility requirements should be confirmed before installing the unit. Meeting the required installation conditions helps the system perform as intended and helps avoid preventable startup or operating issues.
Installation environment
- Install the unit indoors in a nonhazardous location.
- Maintain an ambient installation temperature between 40°F and 100°F.
- Install the system in a well-ventilated area.
- Leave enough space around the generator and associated equipment for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Air supply
The FPS-500 and FPS-900 include a built-in air compressor to supply the nitrogen generator.
- A separate suitable air compressor should be installed for any other air needs.
- These systems are not intended for quick fills.
Additional piping and hosing
Any additional piping or hosing supplied by others must meet the unit’s flow, pressure, and temperature requirements.
- If piping length between connected equipment exceeds 50 feet, consult a piping contractor for proper line sizing.
- Plumbing should be installed in a way that supports service access and minimizes unnecessary pressure drop.
Electrical requirements
- Standard power requirement is 120 VAC / 50-60 Hz / 1 phase.
- A 240 VAC option is also available.
- The unit includes a built-in 15A over-current protection device.
- These systems require hard wiring.
- Power cords are not included.
- The unit is UL 508A ICP certified.
Mounting and clearance considerations
- Mount the unit upright on a weight-bearing wall or suitable rack structure capable of supporting the system weight.
- Leave at least 6 inches on the left side of the cabinet for ventilation.
- Provide 36 inches of recommended clearance for access to the control panel, tube and pipe connections, and front cover.
- A 1/4" OD drain port is located on the bottom right of the cabinet and should be routed to the nearest site drain.
Before installation
- Verify the exact model number on the nameplate.
- Confirm the installation area meets the temperature and ventilation requirements.
- Confirm the mounting surface can safely support the unit.
- Confirm electrical service matches the intended unit configuration.
- Plan the drain connection before mounting the unit.
- Review the installation arrangement and panel/gas connection details before startup.
