Meeting the requirements below lets the generator perform to its design specifications. Deviating from them can reduce performance, create a safety hazard, and void the warranty. Review this article and your unit's installation drawing before siting and connecting the system.
Location and environment
Install the generator indoors in a non-hazardous area (unless your unit was specifically built for another environment), upright, on a surface that supports its weight. Keep it away from heat sources, water, steam, and moving equipment. Maintain the operating ambient temperature for your model:
| Model | Operating Ambient Temperature |
|---|---|
| TL-450 / TL-1050 | 40–90°F (4–32°C) |
| TL-450-Plus / TL-1050-Plus | 40–100°F (4–38°C) |
| TL-1825 | 40–100°F (4–38°C) |
| TL-1725 | 40–104°F (4–40°C) |
Keep relative humidity around the generator at 80% or below. Excess moisture can damage the adsorbent media and void the warranty.
Clearances
Provide enough room around the generator for access and routine maintenance. Refer to your unit's installation drawing for exact dimensions.
- Wall-mounted units (TL-450, TL-450-Plus): mount on a weight-bearing wall and leave at least 4 to 6 in. of clearance on each side for cooling and ventilation.
- Floor-standing units (TL-1050, TL-1050-Plus, TL-1825, TL-1725): leave at least 6 in. on the left for ventilation, 36 in. recommended for control-panel and connection access, and 36 in. at the front for the cabinet door and maintenance. The back and right side may sit against a wall.
- External-air units (TL-1825, TL-1725): allow additional space beside the unit for the air receiver and product receiver skid.
Electrical
- Supply is 110 V or 220 V, single-phase, 50–60 Hz. Voltage is set per the purchase order. Confirm your unit's voltage on the serial-number and UL information label before connecting.
- TL-450, TL-1050, both Plus models, and the TL-1825 ship with a built-in 20 A overcurrent device and a standard 3-prong US power cord (unless otherwise specified).
- The TL-1725, and any unit built to a custom installation drawing, is hard-wired, draws less than 2 A in operation, and uses a 7 A time-delay fuse on the internal panel.
- Electrical panels are UL 508A ICP approved. A schematic ships with the unit and is available on request.
- Follow all local and site electrical codes when finalizing the connection.
Compressed-air supply (TL-1825 and TL-1725)
Supply clean, dry compressed air within the limits below, measured at the generator inlet:
| Model | Incoming Air Pressure | Air Temperature | Air Dew Point |
|---|---|---|---|
| TL-1825 | 100 PSIG min / 125 PSIG max | 40–100°F (4–38°C) | 40°F (4°C) or better |
| TL-1725 | 100 PSIG min / 150 PSIG max | 40–100°F (4–38°C) | 40°F (4°C) or better* |
*Some TL-1725 configurations require a lower dew point. Refer to your unit's design details.
- Set the incoming pressure to the unit's design value to meet purity and production specifications. Running above or below design shifts purity and output, and exceeding the maximum pressure can damage internal components or the adsorbent media.
- Air-supply piping is supplied and installed by others and must deliver the required flow and pressure at the generator inlet. Assume peak feed-air demand can reach up to three times the average feed-air rate.
- If piping from the air receiver runs longer than 50 ft, consult a piping contractor for line sizing.
- Size auxiliary equipment (air dryer, air receiver, nitrogen receiver) to the generator's design so it can meet full specifications.
Drains and exhaust
- Filter auto-drains route to 1/4 in. OD drain ports. Plumb these to the nearest site drain. If drain lines are added, use zero-loss drain lines.
- On the TL-1825 and TL-1725, exhaust may be vented outside. Any added exhaust piping must be the same size or larger, kept as short as possible with minimal restrictions. If the run exceeds 10 ft, size it to keep pressure drop under 0.5 PSIG.
Outdoor installation (optional)
The TL-1725 can be ordered as an outdoor package. The electronics are housed in a NEMA Type 4 cabinet with a nitrogen purge to keep the interior dry, and an optional cooler or heater holds the electronics within their operating range. A roof or walls to shield the unit from driving rain are recommended, and the cabinet should be kept closed. Refer to the project specifications for the limits that apply to your unit.
