Follow these steps when your generator arrives, before it is installed. Careful receiving and storage protect the unit and preserve your warranty coverage.
Receiving and inspection
The generator and its components are securely packed to limit the chance of shipping damage. Inspect the shipment on delivery, before signing for it, and save all packaging material in case the unit needs to be returned.
- If any component is damaged, notify the carrier immediately and document the damage with photos.
- Check all pieces against the packing list. Report any discrepancy to your distributor or to South-Tek Systems, and include the model number and serial number in all correspondence.
- South-Tek Systems is not responsible for damage that occurs during shipping and handling. Notify the carrier first, then contact South-Tek Systems to assess the damage.
Unpacking
Unpacking depends on how your model ships:
- Carton units (TL-450, TL-450-Plus): shipped in a cardboard container. Stand the box on end, open the long side, and slide the unit out with its foam packaging.
- Crated units (TL-1050, TL-1050-Plus, TL-1825): shipped in a wooden crate. Open the crate on the marked side, unbolt the cabinet base from the crate, lift the unit out, and set it on the floor. Use a pallet jack or forklift to move it to its final location.
- Engineered / skid units (TL-1725): shipped upright and bolted to a wooden crate base. Remove with a forklift through the skid slots, back the unit out, and move it to its final location. Use lifting and rigging devices rated for the equipment.
Once the unit is in its final location, remove the four painted shipping lock-down bolts at the bottom of the cabinet before starting the system. These bolts secure the compressor during shipping.
Storage until installation
If the unit will not be installed right away, store it in a safe, dry, climate-controlled room at 60 to 80°F, upright. The unit may remain in its container until installation.
- For storage longer than one month, add desiccant bags as needed and place desiccant packets in the electrical cabinet to keep moisture from damaging the electronics.
- If the unit is stored longer than one month and includes an oxygen fuel cell / analyzer, remove it, tape it off, and store it in a controlled environment.
- Keep all gas lines dry so moisture does not enter the generator at hookup.
- Do not connect the power cable until the installation instructions have been read completely and all connections are made.
- Never place or stack objects on top of the unit, and keep it away from moving objects that could fall or cause damage.
- Save the packaging in a safe location in case the unit needs to be returned to the factory for service.
Reporting damage and claims
Inspect the system fully upon delivery. File transit-damage claims directly with the carrier, within that carrier's policy window. For defects that are not caused by shipping, submit a written claim to South-Tek Systems within one week of receiving the shipment.
