TL Series — Safety Guidelines – South-Tek Systems

Read this article before installing, operating, or servicing a TL Series generator. It covers the basic safety considerations for the nitrogen generator itself. For supporting equipment used with the generator, such as air compressors, dryers, and boosters, follow those manufacturers' safety guidelines as well. Always follow OSHA and local health and safety codes in conjunction with this guidance.

Qualified personnel

Only authorized, trained, and competent individuals may install, operate, maintain, or repair the unit. Work performed by unqualified persons voids the warranty.
The owner is responsible for keeping the unit in safe operating condition at all times.
Use only approved parts for maintenance and repairs. Replacement parts must meet or exceed the original parts' specifications.

Nitrogen and asphyxiation

▲ Attention Nitrogen is not poisonous, but in high concentrations it displaces oxygen and can cause asphyxiation. Install the unit in a well-ventilated room that is not sealed off from normal air changes, and never inhale the gas directly.

Vent the generator's exhaust and any venting gas to the outside or to a large, well-ventilated room to avoid suffocation from lack of oxygen.

High-pressure gas

▲ Warning Pressurized gases are contained within the generator, the receiver, and the product tanks. Pressurized gas is dangerous and can cause injury or death if handled or used improperly.

Completely isolate the incoming and outgoing pressure and depressurize the service section before any mechanical work, including changing filters. The generator remains pressurized after shutdown.
Never allow pressurized gas to exhaust from an unsecured hose. An unsecured hose can whip and cause serious injury. If a hose bursts during use, immediately close all isolation valves if it is safe to do so and power down the unit.
Never disable or bypass any safety relief valve.

Electrical safety

▲ Warning Always disconnect the generator from the supply power before performing any electrical work.

Personal protective equipment

Wear safety glasses if the cabinet door is open while the machine is operating.
Use ear protection when the equipment is operating.

General precautions

Read the relevant installation, operation, and maintenance instructions in full before installing or operating the unit, to prevent accidents and equipment damage.
Use the generator only in accordance with its designed purpose.
Do not tamper with, experiment on, or exceed the technical specifications of the equipment.
