Read this article in its entirety before installing, operating, or servicing the N2-GEN™ HPC Deployable. This system generates and stores nitrogen at pressures up to 3500 PSIG. Improper installation or operation can result in serious injury, death, or equipment damage.
Nitrogen Hazards
Nitrogen (N2) is an odorless, colorless inert gas that makes up approximately 78% of the air we breathe. While nitrogen is not poisonous, concentrated nitrogen displaces oxygen and can cause asphyxiation without warning. The gas produced by this system has no detectable odor — there is no sensory indication of a leak or elevated nitrogen concentration in the surrounding air.
- Always operate in a well-ventilated area with adequate air exchange.
- Never directly inhale nitrogen gas at any concentration.
- Never discharge storage cylinders indoors or in confined spaces.
High-Pressure Safety
The HPCD operates at pressures up to 3500 PSIG. Pressurized gases are dangerous and may cause serious injury or death if handled improperly.
- Never disable or bypass any safety relief valves. The 2200 PSIG fill mode is protected by a 2500 PSIG safety relief valve. The 3500 PSIG fill mode is protected by a 3800 PSIG safety relief valve.
- Never puncture any pressurized vessel — the resulting release of pressurized gas can cause serious injury or death.
- Never expose pressurized vessels or high-pressure hoses to excessive heat or open flame.
- Do not work on any hose — inside or outside the case — without first powering down the unit, closing all isolation valves, and fully relieving system pressure.
- Inspect all high-pressure equipment — cylinders, hoses, CGA valves, and fittings — before each use. Remove any damaged equipment from service immediately.
- Use only hoses and fittings rated for the selected fill pressure.
- Wear safety glasses when working near operating high-pressure equipment.
- Use ear protection during operation — the system produces up to 85 dBA.
Cylinder Handling Safety
- Always note the maximum pressure rating of the cylinder in use before starting a fill. Never exceed the cylinder's rated pressure under any circumstance.
- Cylinders must remain upright and properly secured at all times — during filling and during storage or transport.
- Never overfill a cylinder beyond its rated pressure. Overfilling increases the risk of cylinder failure.
- Connect and verify all CGA fittings are tight before opening any valves.
- Monitor cylinder pressure and system operation continuously during the fill cycle. Shut down immediately using the main power toggle switch and close the cylinder valve if any issue arises.
Ventilation
- All six ventilation ports on the case must be opened using the thumb screws before every fill cycle. Operating with the ports closed will cause components to overheat and may cause permanent damage.
- Maintain at least two feet of clear space on all sides of the hardcase at all times during operation.
- Never stack objects on top of the case. Never block ventilation openings.
- The case top must remain in place during operation to prevent debris, moisture, and foreign objects from entering the system.
Electrical Safety
- This system requires 208–240 VAC / 50–60 Hz / 1 Phase / 17.6 A. Never operate the HPCD with a power source that does not meet these specifications.
- Always disconnect the system from power before performing any electrical work or accessing internal components.
- Confirm the main power toggle switch is in the OFF position before connecting the power cable.
- All electrical connections must be reviewed by a certified electrician before first operation.
- Do not reroute, tap into, or replace any electrical component or wiring with non-manufacturer parts.
Qualified Personnel
Only trained and qualified personnel are permitted to install, operate, maintain, and repair this equipment. Improper installation or service by unqualified individuals can result in injury, equipment damage, and voided warranty. All personnel must follow applicable safe working practices, OSHA regulations, and local health and safety codes.
General Operating Rules
- Read the full O&M manual before installing or operating the system.
- Use the system only in accordance with its designed purpose.
- Do not tamper with, experiment on, or exceed the technical specifications of any component.
- Use only approved, manufacturer-specified replacement parts. Replacement parts must meet or exceed the original specification.
- Contact South-Tek Systems if any problem cannot be resolved using the provided documentation.
- Always follow local and site-specific safety regulations in addition to the requirements in this article.
