This article covers receiving, site selection, electrical connection, and first startup of the N2-GEN™ HPC Deployable. Contact South-Tek Systems to schedule commissioning before operating the system for the first time.
Receiving and Unpacking
The HPCD ships strapped to a wooden pallet with plastic wrap around the hard case. Upon receipt, remove the plastic wrap and strapping and inspect all parts for damage. Report any findings to the carrier and to South-Tek Systems' service department. If there is significant damage to any shipping materials, note it on the bill of lading before signing.
Open the storage compartment on top of the case and confirm the following items are present before proceeding:
- High-pressure fill hoses
- 20 ft electrical power cable (IEC 60309 connector)
- Product documentation (O&M manual and Quick Start Guide)
Read all documentation fully before continuing with installation or operation.
Site Selection and Positioning
Select a site that meets the following requirements:
- Ambient temperature between 40–104°F (4–40°C)
- Relative humidity no greater than 90%
- Elevation no greater than 4,500 ft — nitrogen output decreases above this elevation
- No more than 5 degrees off level
- Reasonably clear of dust, debris, and solvents
- At least 2 feet of clear space on all sides of the hardcase for ventilation and access
Electrical Connection
The HPCD requires a 208–240 VAC / 50–60 Hz / 1 Phase outlet. A 20 ft power cable is supplied with the unit. The cable has an IEC 60309 twist-locking receptacle on one end and flying leads on the other. If hardwiring to the electrical cabinet is preferred, use the supplied electrical schematic and have the work completed by a certified electrician.
Schedule Commissioning
Once the system is positioned and connected to power, contact South-Tek Systems to schedule an in-person or remote commissioning before first operation. The system should not be started without completing this step.
Pre-Startup Checks
Before powering on the system for the first time or after any period of storage, complete the following checks in order:
- Open all six ventilation ports on the case using the thumb screws. This must be done before every fill cycle.
- Confirm both pressure gauges read zero. If either gauge shows pressure, wait until all pressure is fully relieved before proceeding.
- Verify the fill selector ball valve on the control panel is set to the desired fill pressure (2200 or 3500 PSIG).
- Visually inspect all high-pressure hoses and CGA fittings for damage, wear, or loose connections. Actuate each ball valve to confirm freedom of movement.
- Confirm the cylinder to be filled is properly secured upright and its valve is closed.
- Verify that the cylinder and all connected equipment are rated for the selected cut-off pressure.
Powering On
Once all pre-startup checks are complete and the cylinder is attached and secured, toggle the main power switch to the ON position. The green Operate light will illuminate confirming power is connected correctly.
After the switch is turned on, there is a 2-minute startup delay before the compressors begin running. During this delay, no action is required. Once the delay is complete, the compressors will start and begin pressurizing the internal storage tank. The air inlet pressure gauge will move to approximately 100–105 PSIG, which is the normal operating pressure of the internal compressors.
Purging High-Pressure Lines
After the system starts and before closing the cylinder valve to begin filling, open the T-handled valve near the cylinder head for approximately two minutes. This purges any elevated oxygen concentrations from the booster and high-pressure lines. Always exercise caution when opening valves on high-pressure components.
Once purging is complete, close the T-handled valve and open the cylinder valve to begin filling. For detailed step-by-step cylinder filling procedures, including 2200 PSIG and 3500 PSIG fill sequences, refer to the N2-GEN™ HPC Deployable — Cylinder Filling Operation article.
