This article applies to South-Tek Systems industrial N2GEN-FLEX series PSA nitrogen generators.
Safe installation, operation, and maintenance are essential to protect personnel and equipment. This article outlines the main safety guidelines for N2GEN-FLEX systems.
Who this article is for
This content is intended for installers, operators, maintenance personnel, and supervisory staff responsible for the installation, operation, and service of the system.
General safety
- Only trained personnel should install, operate, or service the system.
- Improper installation or operation can result in injury or damage to equipment.
- Review all applicable site, startup, maintenance, and operating requirements before placing the system into service.
Nitrogen safety
Nitrogen is an inert gas. Concentrated nitrogen is odorless and, while not poisonous, can displace oxygen and create an asphyxiation hazard.
- Install and operate the system in a properly ventilated area.
- Do not operate the system in an enclosed, poorly ventilated space.
- If there is any concern about room ventilation or confined-space conditions, review the installation area before startup.
Electrical safety
- Electrical work should be performed or reviewed by a qualified electrician authorized to work in the installation jurisdiction.
- Verify incoming power matches system requirements before operation.
- Do not energize or operate the system until electrical connections have been properly reviewed.
Installation safety
- Install the system on a stable, suitable surface.
- The installed unit should be no more than 5° off level.
- Maintain at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides of the skid.
- Keep the area reasonably clear of dust and debris.
- Operate the system only within the approved ambient temperature range for the equipment.
Startup safety
All N2GEN-FLEX units include either a virtual startup or an on-site startup. Customers should contact South-Tek Systems to schedule this startup before operating the system for the first time.
- Do not attempt initial startup before the included startup has been scheduled.
- Before starting the system, confirm the E-Stop is released.
- Confirm the touchscreen and PLC are active before startup.
Operating safety
- Use the touchscreen Status screen to turn the system on and off during normal operation.
- After shutting the system down, do not restart it until the programmed shutdown delay has cleared.
- During operation, monitor the system for abnormal alarms, unusual noise, or unexpected operating behavior.
Settings and adjustment safety
N2GEN-FLEX systems are factory tuned to perform as specified. Do not adjust valves, regulators, analyzer settings, calibration values, or PLC settings unless specifically directed by South-Tek Systems.
- Do not change protected or factory-level settings without authorization.
- Test screens and calibration-related settings should only be accessed by authorized personnel.
- Unauthorized changes may affect system performance, displayed values, alarms, and startup readiness.
Maintenance safety
- Perform maintenance only after the system has been properly shut down and made safe for service.
- Maintenance counters and filter counters should only be reset after the required service has been completed.
- If the system develops excessive noise, suspected leakage, or repeated alarms, stop and review the condition before continuing operation.
When to stop and contact South-Tek
Contact South-Tek Systems if:
- The system will not power on or start correctly.
- Alarms continue to repeat.
- You suspect a leak or worn component.
- Purity does not recover during normal operation.
- You are unsure whether a setting should be changed.
