This article applies to South-Tek Systems industrial N2-GEN TS, CS, and S series PSA nitrogen generators.
Use this article as a general installation guide for the N2-GEN TS, CS, and S series. Always review the project-specific General Arrangement drawing, electrical schematic, and any customer-specific documentation before installation.
Before installation
Before placing the generator, confirm the site meets the required air, electrical, and environmental conditions. Installation conditions that do not meet the published requirements may affect performance and may void warranty coverage.
- Confirm incoming air quality, dew point, and pressure meet the required specifications.
- Confirm the installation area provides adequate access for service and routine maintenance.
- Confirm all personnel and lifting equipment are qualified for the size and weight of the equipment being moved.
- Review the supplied General Arrangement drawing before positioning any equipment.
Receiving and moving the equipment
Unloading and moving procedures vary by model family:
- TS and CS series: These units are typically bolted upright inside a wooden crate. Open the crate from the marked side, unbolt the unit from the bottom of the crate, and remove it using a forklift through the skid fork openings.
- S series: These units are commonly shipped lying down on a truck or flatbed unless otherwise noted in the customer drawings package. Use a crane or forklift rated for the load, follow the designated lifting points, and avoid jolting or impact during handling.
Once the unit reaches its final location, secure it in accordance with local and site anchoring requirements.
Installation steps
- Follow the correct unloading and unpacking procedure for the specific generator series.
- Position the generator in a suitable installation area and lift it carefully to avoid component damage.
- Review the customer-specific General Arrangement drawing for the intended system layout. Depending on the package, this may include the air compressor, air dryer, air cooler, air receiver tank, air filtration, nitrogen generator, nitrogen storage tank, and nitrogen booster.
- Place the equipment in its final arrangement based on the drawing and site conditions. South-Tek recommends locating the nitrogen storage tank as close to the generator as possible. If the tank must be located more than 50 feet away, consult South-Tek Systems.
- Install all associated equipment in accordance with the original equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
- Complete all required interconnecting plumbing between components as shown on the General Arrangement drawing. Connection plumbing to other components is not typically supplied as a standard option.
- Follow local codes when installing tank accessories such as relief valves, gauges, and isolation valves.
- Visually inspect all tanks and piping for moisture and debris before installation. Tanks should be blown down before final plumbing is completed.
- Have a qualified electrician complete all final electrical connections to the nitrogen generator and related equipment.
- Check all fittings, hoses, and piping connections for leaks before startup.
Piping and component notes
- All final pipe sizing should be determined by the installing pipe contractor.
- Only use materials with compatible pressure ratings on product piping.
- All piping should be clean and free of foreign material before connection.
- If tank accessories are included with the package, refer to the detailed tank drawings for proper installation and connection sizes.
Electrical installation notes
- Verify available voltage and frequency match the unit labeling and drawings before energizing the system.
- Connect the nitrogen generator to an approved electrical connection point in accordance with local and site codes.
- Connect any associated equipment according to the original manufacturer’s instructions.
Important installation cautions
- Use properly rated lifting and rigging equipment.
- Avoid heavy impacts and jolting motions during movement, as they may damage internal components.
- Only use pressure-rated materials on nitrogen product piping.
- Do not proceed with startup until all piping and electrical connections have been checked.
After installation
Once installation is complete, proceed to startup only after confirming the equipment is correctly positioned, fully connected, leak checked, and supplied with the correct utilities.
