Applies to: South-Tek LABTEK™ TYP2M — N2-LAB-100L, N2-LAB-220L
The LABTEK™ TYP2M includes three air filters that protect the nitrogen generating media from moisture and particulate contamination. Because the system has no electronic controller, there is no automated filter alarm — replacement is scheduled by calendar date only. Keeping to the replacement schedule is critical; a blocked drain or saturated filter will cause moisture and oil to carry over into the absorber and carbon molecular sieve, causing permanent, irreversible damage.
⚠ WarningShut off and fully depressurize the system before removing any filter bowls. The system operates at high pressure — confirm the storage tank and supply line are both at zero pressure before opening any fittings.
Filter Kit & Replacement Schedule
ℹ NoteFilter kit part number: FRP-008. Order before scheduling the service visit. Use only factory-supplied filter elements — substitute parts may be inferior, cause system damage, and void the warranty.
| Filter | Function | Replacement Interval |
|---|---|---|
| Particulate | Removes bulk particles from compressed air supply | Every 3 months (4× per year) |
| Coalescing | Removes fine particles and coalesces moisture | Every 6 months (2× per year) |
| Absorber | Removes fine oil aerosols and residual contamination | Every 12 months (1× per year) |
ℹ NoteThere is no automated filter alarm on the LABTEK™ TYP2M. Replacement is based entirely on calendar date. Record the date of each filter change and set a reminder — do not rely on system symptoms to indicate when filters are due.
Filter Replacement Procedure
- Close the System On/Off Valve to shut off the air supply to the generator.
- Open the service valve downstream of the filters to relieve pressure from the filter housings. Confirm the air supply pressure gauge reads 0 PSIG before continuing.
- Disconnect any condensate drain tubes connected to the bottom of the filter bowls.
- Remove each filter bowl. Depending on the filter model, either push the bowl latch down and rotate counterclockwise while pulling down, or remove the retaining screws and pull the bowl off.
- Inspect each bowl before cleaning. If a bowl is full of water, the auto-drain is blocked — clear the blockage before installing new elements, as a blocked drain will contaminate the new filter immediately.
- Remove the filter element by unscrewing it counterclockwise. Note the element's condition — if it is excessively contaminated before its scheduled interval, shorten the replacement frequency for that filter.
- Wash each bowl in soapy water and rinse thoroughly. A light air gun can be used to remove remaining debris. Dry with a clean cloth.
- Install the new filter elements and replace O-rings as needed with those provided in the FRP-008 kit.
- Reinstall each bowl in the correct housing in reverse order, ensuring it is fully seated.
- Reconnect the condensate drain tubes.
- Slowly reopen the System On/Off Valve to repressurize the filter housings. Inspect all filter bowl connections for leaks before returning the system to normal operation.
⚠ WarningA blocked auto-drain will allow water and oil to pass through into the absorber filter and the nitrogen generating media, causing permanent damage not covered under warranty. Verify auto-drains are functioning at every filter service visit.
