How Do I Remove a Push-to-Connect Fitting?
Push-to-connect (PTC) fittings are designed for quick and easy installation, but removing them properly is just as important—especially to avoid damage to the tubing or the fitting itself.
Below is a step-by-step guide on how to safely remove a push-to-connect fitting.
🔧 Step-by-Step Removal Instructions
1. Depressurize the System
Before removing any PTC fitting, always ensure the system is fully depressurized. Disconnecting under pressure can be dangerous and may damage the fitting or tubing.
2. Secure the Fitting Body
Use one hand to firmly hold the body of the fitting in place. This prevents unnecessary stress on the connected components.
3. Press the Release Collar
With your other hand, press the colored collar on the fitting inward toward the body. This releases the internal grip on the tubing. A release tool can be used if finger pressure alone is difficult.
4. Gently Remove the Tubing
While holding the collar in, pull the tubing straight out. Avoid bending or twisting during removal to prevent deformation of the tubing or fitting.
🛠️ Helpful Tip:
If the tubing doesn’t release easily, double-check that the collar is fully depressed and the system is completely depressurized.
